In my painting, Study Golf, I wanted to convey the
gesture and form of the golfer looking at the golf course with light, shadow
and hues (color). I modeled the form of
the golfer in light, mid tones where appropriate and shadow with warm and cool
hues respectively. The modeling with
values (gray scale) gives the figure a third dimension. The artist, Leonardo da
Vinci developed the technique, sfumato that used fine changes from light to
dark values and vice versa. The warm sun also casts a light on the ground which
contrasts with the cool cast shadow and shadow on the ground.
This is a digital painting using traditional oil painting
techniques and a painterly approach. I used virtual brushes and paints (Corel
Painter 12 and Intuos5 drawing pen and tablet).
