Famous British artist, William Turner (1775 - 1851) painted color, light and emotion. His art was studied by the impressionists. The above painting, Snowstorm (1842) is a wonderful example of Turner’s use of intensity, atmospheric effect and vibration. This painting makes viewers feel the force of nature. Turner reduced the detail and elements to make the painting powerful. (J. Vigue, Great Masters of Western Art)
