In my painting, Seaside
Village Boats, I wanted to convey a sense of calm and peace. I used little
contrast in values (gray scale). The focal point is the boat on the left front
side that has the darkest dark and lightest light. I repeated the dark value in
the front building. I also used soft edges. There are a few hard edges, i.e.
the 2 front boats. By using little value contrast and soft edges, I was able to
achieve a calm mood. French artist, Claude Lorraine was known for his
atmospheric and tranquil landscape paintings.
This is a digital painting using traditional oil painting
techniques and a painterly approach. I used virtual brushes and paints (Corel
Painter 12 and Intuos5 drawing pen and tablet).
