This is an image of my painting, Covered Bridge, and the image in gray scale (values). The painting is in 2 point linear perspective. I prevented the viewer’s eyes moving immediately into the background using a number of techniques. The front of the bridge is almost parallel to the viewer; very close to 1 point perspective. There are light values on the front roof and on the front left inside of the bridge. There are also trees at the back of the bridge. These elements reduce the competition of the background with the foreground. The sunlight strikes the right side of the bridge and therefore the local color is at the front of the bridge. The color approach is contrast of color temperature. This approach is similar to impressionism. Although my painting is primarily middle values, there are more dark values that you would normally see in paintings by the impressionists.
