In my painting, Hockey Race, I wanted to convey the competition
between the players for the hockey puck. It was necessary to paint speed and
movement of the players. I painted only 2 figures instead of the recommended odd numbered shapes, i.e. 3.
The painting is closely cropped. The figures are diagonally shaped and bending forward. Many edges
are blurred to convey the movement including the blurred hockey stick and puck. The colors of each player are different. The colors of the shirts are complementary hues. The values of the pants are different. The upper background shows individual blurred brush strokes and a curved shape contributing to the action.
This is a digital painting using traditional oil painting
techniques and a painterly approach. I used virtual brushes and paints (Corel
Painter 12 and Intuos5 drawing pen and tablet).
