In my painting, Runners, I wanted to convey the speed and
movement of the figures. I used a
horizontal format giving the runners the space to move forward on the track. I
also blurred the edges as soft edges are necessary to convey movement. There is
a gap between the right runner’s front leg and cast shadow; this helps convey
movement. Uniforms are similar in color helping the viewer’s eyes connect the
figures.
This is a digital painting using traditional oil painting techniques
and a painterly approach. I used only virtual brushes and paints (Corel
Painter 12 and Intuos5 drawing pen and tablet). I did not use software aids,
i.e. filters, effects.
