Sculptural Form & Space in My Dancer Painting

I did this painting of a dancer several years ago. It is watercolor paint on paper. The painting is also shown in gray scale (values). I was interested in emphasizing the sculptural form and muscles of the dancer. The edges of the light, mid tones and shadows are hard; these strong contrasts of values accentuate the structure of the figure. In my painting, the background is blurred but the figure stands out in space. This similar technique is seen in the painting by master artist Velazquez, Pablo De Valladolid.
