This image is of a painting in progress and the image in gray scale (values), (Winter Colours).
I wanted to achieve the sense of isolation I feel during winter. The dominant value is middle tones. The light tones are close in amount to the middle tones. There are a few dark tones. The building is a cube form with a wedge on top. The sunlight is from the left. The local colour is the cube’s darker tone. You can see the sharp edges where the planes of light and local colour meet. These sharp edges are typical in cube forms. (See my prior posts.) The dominant colours are cool in temperature. The colour of the snow reflects the colour of the sky. I exaggerated the colour of the snow. In the original scene, the fence did not have a break in it. I put a break in the fence so the viewer was not blocked from entering the background. Most of the activity is in the left horizontal square. This is left horizontal rabatment. (See prior post.)
