Compositional Structures in Art- Emphasis on Vertical and Horizontal

I am working on a landscape painting. While my format is horizontal and there are horizontal shapes, the emphasis is on 3 vertical shapes; 2 vertical rock formations separated by the vertical shape of water. While horizontal compositional structures emphasize calm, vertical structures emphasize action, strength and power. Both structures suggest stability. With my use of colours and shapes, I hope to engage viewers in a dynamic painting. (Design and Composition, Nathan Goldstein)
