Tension in Fine Art

Tension in art can occur when 2 elements almost meet. The elements try to meet or withdraw from each other. I heard that the greatest tension in art is in Michelangelo’s painting, Creation of Adam. The hands of Adam and God almost meet.

Rabatment in Fine Art

Rabatment of the rectangle is a structural tool that leads to unity, harmony and balance. Place your main subject or image inside a vertical or horizontal square using 3 of the edges of your support's rectangle. Rabatment can be either on the left, right, upper or lower sides. I put my focal point in this area and also follow all the guides I have written about placement and elements for focal points.
