This is
my painting, Football Rush. I wanted to convey the gesture and movement
of the running back. Movement is
conveyed by the diagonal shapes of the figure.
The right foot’s toes only touch the ground. The space between heel and ground, cast shadow
implies movement. I also blurred the outer edges of the figure. My sculptural modeling of the figure with
light and shadow does not contribute to movement. This figure is at the front of the picture plane; this adds animation to the figure of the football player.
This is a digital painting using mainly traditional oil painting
techniques and a painterly approach. I used virtual brushes and paints on
coarse cotton canvas (Corel Painter 12 and Wacom Intuos5 drawing pen and tablet).
I worked with mainly impasto and oil brushes.
My primary technique was painting wet into wet. I also glazed
transparent paint over dry paint primarily over the shadow and cast shadow
shapes.
