Painting a Rainy Day Scene, Artist Caillebotte
The above painting, Street in Paris in the Rain (1877), was painted by French artist, Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894). When raining, there is no direct sunlight and there is little contrast between light and shadow. There are reflections on the road and pavement. The emphasis in this painting is on vertical direction with horizontal movement created by the people. (Essential Impressionists, Antonia Cunningham)
