Fight Breast Cancer - Bid, Buy Painting, Autumn Landscape

The CBCF supports this auction. The Foundation benefits all with its works, regardless of country. As a Canadian breast cancer survivor, I participated in a research project for less invasive surgical operations. The tumour was sent to the U.S. for study and follow up. Countries shared research and knowledge and I continue to participate in research projects.

Tops of Cubes, Cylinders, Half Spheres, Reverse Cones in Art

This is a detail from my painting, Autumn Landscape, and an image of the detail in a gray scale (values).

The tops of these forms (cubes, cylinders, half spheres, reverse cones) include colours of the objects above them. They might include warm sunlight, blue sky colours, green from the leaves. A still life under a north sky would have cool light. These tops are usually lighter than the object’s sides in light. The tops have sharp edges with the sides of the forms. I wrote previously that I soften these edges slightly as I find the edges so sharp that the object does not hold its form. I had written about rectangular forms. These are really cube forms as rectangles are usually shapes.

Cones, Forms in Art - Light, Temperature, Value

The umbrellas are cones in form. The warm sunlight is coming from the left front side. These areas of the umbrellas are warm and light in value. This is particularly noticeable on the left front umbrella and the back right umbrella. The mid tones (local colour) are next to each side of the umbrellas’ light. The form shadows are on both sides of the cones’ mid tones. The shadows are cool and darker than the mid tones. Again, changes of colour temperature and value are not abrupt as was seen in the cube/rectangular forms. These changes are soft and blurred as they were in the spherical and cylinder forms. In August 2010 my paintings will be exhibited at the Art for All Canada’s Rainbow Gallery. The Gallery is at 80 Front St. East across from Toronto’s historic St. Lawrence Market. You enter the Gallery through Rainbow Cinemas, Market Square. Viewing the exhibits is free. At the top of this site is a link to Art for All Canada’s Gallery.
